Whistling against a lawyer with gang connections – sentence discount is denied

The 33-year-old man, sentenced to life, was a key witness in the trial of the lawyer Ekrem Güngör, who was sentenced to prison for preparation for murder in 2022.

The man wants to have his sentence timed for his testimony, but is denied by the Örebro District Court, reports Omni with reference to Dagens Juridik.

District Court: High risk of recidivism

Among other things, the man states that he voluntarily turned to a correctional officer and told what he knew about a planned murder at the institution, where Güngör was described as “coordinator”.

However, the district court believes that there are insufficient reasons for the man to be granted a reduced sentence. The court also assesses that the man’s risk of recidivism in serious crime is high, and sees that as an absolute obstacle to being able to determine the term of his sentence.

Leaked classified information

In July 2022, ex-lawyer Ekrem Güngör was sentenced to prison for preparation for murder. When the police gained access to the encrypted communications service Enrochat, it was revealed that he and another lawyer had been communicating with gang criminals.

In the chats, where the lawyers were called “the king” and “the prince”, they allegedly leaked secret information. It led to being expelled from the bar.

Ekrem Güngör, who was called “the king”, was sentenced to six years in prison. The other lawyer, Amir Amdouni, was sentenced to four years in prison for aiding and abetting a particularly serious drug crime and violating the ban on smoking. The case was later taken up in the Court of Appeal, where they were sentenced to the same penalties.
