At 03:00 Swedish time, the truce between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect.
The world is now holding its breath to see if, after 14 months, the spiral of violence in the region finally turns towards peace.
The ceasefire was preceded by massive Israeli bomb attacks in Lebanon, both against Beirut and along the border with Syria, but also occasional attacks against Israeli targets by Hezbollah.
The Syrian Red Crescent writes according to the BBC that one of their volunteers died in an Israeli attack at a border crossing between Syria and Lebanon on Tuesday evening. Several ambulances are also said to have been damaged.

The Supreme Court of the state of New South Wales in Australia on Wednesday convicted police officer Kristian White of manslaughter after he used a stun gun on 95-year-old Clare Nowland in her nursing home in 2023.
Police were called to the care home because Nowland, who was demented and used a walker, was aggressive and had a knife in his hand. When White triggered the stun gun, she fell so badly that she hit her head and later died.
The penalty will be announced at a later date.

The United States has struck an Iranian-backed militia in Syria, the US military’s Middle East Command, Centcom, announced in a post on X late Tuesday night.
According to the post, the attack, which was said to have targeted weapons depots, was in response to an earlier attack on US personnel.
“As previously announced, no attacks against our or our coalition partners’ personnel will be accepted,” writes Centcom.

Two have died and several have been seriously injured after a work accident at a biogas plant in Funen in Denmark, writes Danish TV 2.
The emergency services are searching for more dead or injured at the scene.
Witnesses say that a silo must have collapsed, according to Ekstrabladet.
