The ceasefire in Lebanon has entered into force

At 03:00 Swedish time, the truce between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect.

The world is now holding its breath to see if, after 14 months, the spiral of violence in the region finally turns towards peace.

The ceasefire was preceded by massive Israeli bomb attacks in Lebanon, both against Beirut and along the border with Syria, but also occasional attacks against Israeli targets by Hezbollah.

The Syrian Red Crescent writes according to the BBC that one of their volunteers died in an Israeli attack at a border crossing between Syria and Lebanon on Tuesday evening. Several ambulances are also said to have been damaged.

Police shot 95-year-old woman with a stun gun – convicted of murder

The Supreme Court of the state of New South Wales in Australia on Wednesday convicted police officer Kristian White of manslaughter after he used a stun gun on 95-year-old Clare Nowland in her nursing home in 2023.

Police were called to the care home because Nowland, who was demented and used a walker, was aggressive and had a knife in his hand. When White triggered the stun gun, she fell so badly that she hit her head and later died.

The penalty will be announced at a later date.

Trump takes credit for ceasefire in Lebanon

A representative of Trump’s campaign team says, according to the BBC, that the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah is the merit of the future president.

“President Trump correctly predicted that actors in the region would move towards peace thanks to his historic victory – and that is exactly what we are seeing happening now,” said the representative, according to the BBC.

“Iran-backed proxy groups realize the clock is ticking,” he adds.

The US has bombed militias in Syria

The United States has struck an Iranian-backed militia in Syria, the US military’s Middle East Command, Centcom, announced in a post on X late Tuesday night.

According to the post, the attack, which was said to have targeted weapons depots, was in response to an earlier attack on US personnel.

“As previously announced, no attacks against our or our coalition partners’ personnel will be accepted,” writes Centcom.

Explosion in stairwell in Finspång

Shortly before midnight, the police received an alert about a loud bang in a stairwell in Finspång.

– When we arrive at the scene, we find that something has exploded next to an apartment building. We have damage to a gate and some occasional window glass, says Torbjörn Lindqvist, officer on duty at the police.

No people have been injured, and there is no need to evacuate the homes.

– There will be a technical investigation. We are in contact with the National Bomb Protection Authority, says Lindqvist.

The police are knocking on doors in the area and are appealing for observations from the public.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah says it has targeted soldiers in northern Israel, amid news that a ceasefire was in the works.

Soon after, two border crossings into Lebanon were attacked by Israel, according to Syrian state media.

Two dead after accident at silo

Two have died and several have been seriously injured after a work accident at a biogas plant in Funen in Denmark, writes Danish TV 2.

The emergency services are searching for more dead or injured at the scene.

Witnesses say that a silo must have collapsed, according to Ekstrabladet.

The police have not commented on the information.

Man found with stab wounds – taken to hospital

A man has been found with stab wounds in central Södertälje.

He is in his 30s and has been taken to hospital with unclear injuries.

Two men, also in their 30s, have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault.

The police write that the crime scene is indoors, but that the men were found outside.

Israeli yes to ceasefire in Lebanon

A 25-year-old woman received a surcharge after she did not buy a ticket for public transport in Gothenburg on Tuesday evening.

When she is then checked again by ticket inspectors on another tram, she punches one of the inspectors in the stomach.

The police write that there were no injuries.

Kristersson in conversation with Rutte and Macron

Israel has approved a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon, Reuters reports.
