The Israeli government’s so-called war cabinet has approved a ceasefire in the Lebanon conflict.
Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu told about the ceasefire on TV.
Netanyahu praised the Israeli army for the successful battle. According to him, the terrorist organization Hezbollah has been defeated and the inhabitants of the northern part of the country can return to their homes.
The ceasefire will last for two months. Israeli forces withdraw from Lebanese territory. At the same time, Hezbollah soldiers withdraw to the north of Litanijoki.
Israel has insisted that its troops can return to Lebanon if Hezbollah does not comply with the terms of the cease-fire.
Netanyahu linked the ceasefire to the Gaza conflict. He promised that the hostages taken by the Hamas organization would be returned home. Defeating Hezbollah will help here, because in the future Hamas will have to fight alone, he said.
He also stated that Israel is able to focus on the threat posed by Iran.
The War Cabinet’s decision will be submitted to the entire government for a decision.
