Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson wants the Chinese ship to move towards Sweden

– From the Swedish side, we have had contact with the ship and China and stated that we want the ship to move towards Swedish waters, says the prime minister during a press conference.

He emphasizes that there is no accusation in that wish, nor that it has to do with the criminal investigation that the police have started.

– Here lies only a Swedish wish for that ship to move towards Swedish waters so that we can more easily cooperate in what has happened.

Two cable breaks in the Baltic Sea

SVT Nyheter has previously reported that the Yi Peng 3 became interesting after analysis of the ship’s movements showed that it was in the vicinity of two cable breaks in the Baltic Sea in direct connection to the time that the breakdowns occurred.

SVT Nyheter reported on Monday, together with the Danish public service company DR, that diplomatic negotiations are taking place behind the scenes regarding the ship.

A Swedish authority source has stated that discussions are ongoing with several different countries, with the goal of being able to investigate the cable breaches on board the Chinese ship.

Preliminary investigation into sabotage

The police have started a preliminary investigation with the criminal classification of sabotage after the cable breaches.

The investigation is being handled by the national operational department, Noa, with support from the defence, the Coast Guard and the Security Police.
