Since 1993, the United Nations has declared November 25 the international day for the elimination of all kinds of violence against women and girls. This day was celebrated with pomp at the People’s Palace in Conakry, at the initiative of women and young girls around Ms. Maimouna Yombouno, vice-president of the National Transitional Council, the provisional parliament in Guinea.

Hadja Mariame Sylla, former Minister of Social Affairs, Women and Family, is today an activist for the defense of women.
She denounces the violence to which Guinean women are victims: “ The worst form of violence that we have experienced is female genital mutilation and early marriage, where Guinea is cited second in Africa in terms of the rate. After that, today we are experiencing another phenomenon, that of the rape and murder of little girls and that is what sickens me. “.
In 2009, more than a hundred women were raped during the massacre of September 28 in Conakry. Four months after the trial verdict, and the convictions for crimes against humanity, the former minister calls on the Guinean authorities.
“I here call on the social body, the government, every last one, the religious people to help us change the paradigm, so that violence is no longer tolerable,” added Hadja Mariame Sylla.
Hadja Maimouna Yombouno, vice-president of the National Transitional Council, is at the origin of this mobilization.
A victim of violence herself, she appeals for solidarity from Guinean women: “I call on all women in good positions to get wet. Not everyone has the opportunity to reach a position of responsibility. But, if you reach a position of responsibility, do not stay in comfort, continue to fight to help others. I only want to be useful to my society “.
Started this Monday, November 25, the mobilization will end on December 14, the day after International Human Rights Day.
