The Shia militia Hezbollah and Israel have attacked each other since the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel last year, and the conflict has escalated.
– Two months ago, Israel stepped up its massive bombing campaign against Lebanon, which has led to enormous destruction and huge losses of human life, says foreign reporter Stina Blomgren.
Now 3,700 people have been killed in Lebanon, compared to 140 in Israel, and there is pressure to end the attacks.
– One factor that now seems to be undermining is that Hezbollah has dropped its previous demand that a cease-fire in Lebanon presupposes a cease-fire in Gaza, says Stina Blomgren.
Voting on Tuesday
The agreement is said to mean, among other things, that the armed Shia militia must withdraw approximately 30 kilometers from the Israeli border area.
According to media sources, Israel is also demanding an additional agreement in which the US gives the country a free hand to act if hostile militias are found to remain in southern Lebanon during the ceasefire, TT reports.
Israel’s government will vote on the agreement on Tuesday, according to several media reports.
