The management of the Formula 1 series and General Motors have agreed to include a new F1 team in the royal category of motor sports for the 2026 season.
Formula 1 has made an agreement in principle with General Motors that GM-owned Cadillac will bring a new team to the F1 series for the 2026 season. Cadillac will be the eleventh formula team in the F1 series.
CEO of Liberty Media Greg Maffei points to the US GM bringing added value and interest to the sport.
Also head of the FIA, the International Automobile Federation Mohammed Ben Sulayem has already given the green light to the decision.
Liberty Media, the F1 company that runs motorsport’s royalty, announced on Monday that GM has committed to branding its new team and delivering engines later.
– Here we are talking about Cadillac joining as a brand. This is a really important thing for the Formula Ones. In recent years, especially in endurance races, Cadillac has built and developed advanced equipment, ‘s expert Jukka Mildh has previously emphasized.
The headquarters of the current F1 team Haas is located in the US state of North Carolina. With Cadillac’s entry into the Formula 1 series, from a marketing point of view, there is going to be a completely different level of buzz beforehand.
There are three F1 races in the USA this season; in Miami, Austin and Las Vegas.
– This is a big consideration for the series. And it’s not a competitive factor for, for example, Mercedes, Honda or others – it’s quite the opposite. North America plays a significant role when talking about the possibilities of the development of formula one, Mildh sees.
Cadillac, owned by General Motors, initially used Ferrari engines. GM has promised to develop its own engines by 2028.
Michael Andretti led project was abandoned earlier this year. Andretti’s name has been removed from the lists, but Mario Andretti seems to act as the “ambassador” of the new stable.
– Cadillac’s F1 team consists of a strong group of experts who have worked tirelessly to build an American team. I am very proud of the hard work they have done and congratulate everyone involved on this important next step. I encourage you, declared Andretti on social media.
