On Sunday morning, the thermometer in Gothenburg was 3.4 degrees. At the same time a day later, it stands at 13.9 degrees. The same large differences in temperature can be seen in, among other places, Kiruna – and throughout Sweden it is significantly warmer than yesterday.
– It’s crazy, it’s really fast shifts. It is unusually mild air that flows in over us, says Madeleine Westin.
This weekend, the British Isles were hit by storm Bert, which brought rain, wind and flooding. Bert’s aftermath is now being felt in Sweden and SMHI has issued a number of warnings.
– This has meant that it is really windy and large amounts of rain are expected in parts of western Götaland. We also have ice in a large part of Norrland, says TV4’s meteorologist.
– It is the temperature differences that cause incredibly heavy rainfall, she continues.
The warnings apply here
During the morning, SMHI has issued yellow warnings for sudden ice slippage, in Norra Dalarna, Hälsingland and northern Norrland’s coastal areas, among others. However, these warnings will disappear by lunchtime, with the mild weather.
SMHI also warns of large amounts of rain in parts of Bohuslän and Dalsland, where there is a risk of flooding in low-lying areas. The warning is valid until 18:00 on Monday evening. Around 15 millimeters of rain is expected in some places.
– It can lead to flooded basements and so on, says Madeleine Westin.
SMHI has also issued warnings for high water levels, both on the east coast and the west coast.
– The entire Baltic Sea is like a bathtub so the water is only pushed north, so the water rises up there.
The unusually mild weather is expected to disappear after Wednesday.
