In connection with storm Bert, nine departments were placed on orange alert by Météo France for “violent winds” this Monday, November 25. Gusts of up to 120 km/h are expected.

On the night of Sunday November 24 to Monday November 25, Météo France placed nine central-eastern departments on orange alert for “strong winds”, until 6 p.m. this Monday. Saône-et-Loire, Allier, Puy-de-Dôme, Loire, Rhône, Haute-Loire, Ain, Isère and Jura are affected. Strong gusts of wind are linked to depression “Bert”. “The south-southeast wind has strengthened significantly in the departments placed on orange alert,” specifies the meteorological station.

This Monday morning, the wind gusts accelerate and reach 100-110 km/h “particularly in Lyonnais, in the Givors sector, up to the northern plains of Auvergne and Saône-et-Loire, with for the Gier valley and the Haute-Loire valleys, values which can reach or exceed 120 km/h at peak”, indicates Météo France in its national bulletin.

Other departments soon to be affected by storm Bert?

In the Pyrenees, the winds should weaken this Monday morning. The Massif Central will be affected by this depression until the beginning of the afternoon. Finally, the Lyonnais, the Gier valley and the Saône-et-Loir will have to wait until mid-afternoon to see the effects of the Bert depression fade away. The station has already recorded gusts of 111 km/h in Clermont-Ferrand, 99 km/h in Puy Chadrac and even 91 km/h in Saint-Etienne.

Please note, Météo France warns that strong winds will not be limited to the departments placed on orange alert this Monday. “Uncertainty persists over a geographic extension of the phenomenon for strong gusts which may partially affect part of Cantal,” we assure. This Monday morning, all trains between Clermont-Ferrand and Paris were canceled by SNCF. Trains running between the stations of Lyon, Saint-Etienne, Le Puy en Velay, Roanne, Montbrison and Roanne are also affected.
