In the crime series Blue Bloods, Esposito embodies the
Police Officer Jackie Curatola and investigated alongside main character Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg). In season 3, the character increasingly suffered from signs of burnout and left police headquarters of his own free will.
As Screenrant reports, Jennifer Esposito’s exit happened behind the scenes apparently not quite harmonious. The actress was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2012. This is a gluten intolerance that leads to an autoimmune disease in the long term.
Due to the diagnosis, Jennifer Esposito tried to reduce her work schedule on set following her doctor’s advice. However, CBS Studios did not comply with the changes she requested. This in turn led to Jennifer Esposito collapsing on set multiple times.
According to her statement, she was subsequently hired by CBS Studios sent on unpaid leave and effectively prevented from working for other broadcasters. According to Esposito, they didn’t take her illness seriously.
