Somalias ex police chief Dont send children here to Koranic school

It is difficult to get children sent to Somalia back, even though they are treated badly in Koranic schools, says Somalia’s most senior police chief.

Somalia’s former deputy police chief Zakia Hussein is visiting Norway He has met the country’s authorities and Somalis living in Norway. Tells about it Norwegian public radio NRK.

Hussein’s message is that Somali parents should not send their children to Koranic schools in Somalia or Kenya.

According to him, schools are falsely advertised as a way to return westernized children to Somali and Islamic values.

However, there are many problems in schools. The children are kept under military discipline, which Hussein says is comparable to physical and mental torture. In some schools, girls are sexually harassed without the Somali authorities intervening.

Hussein urges Somalis living in Norway to seek help from the Norwegian authorities for youth problems. It is difficult to intervene in the activities of Koranic schools. Even if one of them is closed down, new ones are born all the time because they get money from Somalis living in the west.
