French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, who visited London, the capital of England, on November 22, gave an interview to the British broadcaster BBC.
“FRANCE DOES NOT HAVE ANY RED LINE”
According to the interview, which the BBC will broadcast in full tomorrow, Barrot noted that France does not have any red line regarding support for Ukraine.
Stating that Western countries should increase their defense budgets, Barrot said, “If we want to do more, we have to spend more and face new threats.” he said.
“THEY CAN USE IT AGAINST RUSSIA”
Barrot stated that Ukraine could use French-made long-range missiles against Russia “in self-defense.”
Avoiding confirming whether these missiles had been used before, the French Minister said, “Our principles are clear. Our messages were clearly received by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.” he said.
“WE DO NOT EXCLUDE ANY OPTIONS”
Regarding the possibility of French soldiers joining the war in Ukraine, Barrot said, “We do not exclude any option.” he said.
The French Minister said, “We will support Ukraine in the amount and for as long as it needs. Why? Because our security is at stake here.” He stated that every time the Russian army makes progress, the threat to Europe gets closer.
Barrot noted that they keep the door open to Ukraine’s invitation to NATO membership and that they are making efforts to bring their European allies closer to France’s stance on this issue.
