What is Postnord today has a history that stretches all the way back to the 17th century. At that time, shipments were carried between sender and receiver on foot or on horseback.
Since then, a lot has happened. In 1994, the post office was transformed into the state-owned Posten AB and in 2009, together with Post Danmark A/S, they formed Postnord.

But it is not only the postal service itself that has changed over the centuries. The number of letters sent has also dropped significantly since the turn of the millennium. For example, in 2018, a quarter as many Christmas cards were sent as in the record year 1997, according to Postal code themselves.

Postcode: Christmas cards still popular
Having said that, Christmas cards are a tradition that many Swedes still cling to.
– The Christmas card has always been a way to show concern, something that became especially important in the wake of the pandemic when it was difficult to see loved ones. Sending Christmas greetings in the form of Christmas cards is still close to the Swedes’ hearts. 57 percent think it is quite or very important to keep the tradition, and to make someone happy and show care are the main reasons for sending Christmas cards, stated Stina Olofsdottermanager at Postnord stamps, i a press release last year.

When to send Christmas cards in 2024?
So what day is actually the last day to put the Christmas cards in the box, for them to arrive before Christmas is over in 2024?
“Be out in good time when you send Christmas cards and packages, so they arrive before Christmas Eve,” writes Postnord on its website.

But they also indicate a specific date. You must post Christmas cards with a Christmas stamp by December 16 at the latest in order for them to reach the recipient in time.
