Path of Exile 2 will run in parallel with its predecessor and will include its own season leagues. The game handles many systems differently compared to its predecessor. Path of Exile 2’s combat mechanics are inspired by Elden Ring, offering features such as active blocks and escape rolls. There’s also a smart skill system that encourages combining different actions rather than spamming a single skill.

During early access, Path of Exile 2 will make 6 of the 12 classes playable, each with two of the three planned Ascensions. Players will be able to play through the first half of the campaign, which will be available in two difficulty levels, and dive into an enhanced version of the original Path of Exile’s end game.

New classes such as Warrior, Monk, Mercenary and Mage are entering the game, while Witch and Ranger are also returning. However, some of Path of Exile’s iconic classes, including the shape-shifting Druid and Hunter, will wait for later updates.

New Systems and Mechanics

Path of Exile 2 has a system where each class initially starts at a predetermined point in a shared passive skill tree. “Fear not, there are a lot of options, but it’s pretty simple at heart,” says game director Jonathan Rogers, noting that each class will have upgrades tailored to their specialization.

At certain points, players will earn Promotion points by choosing one of three different challenges. Initially, two trials will be available, Sekhema’s Trial and Trial Master’s Challenge.

While Path of Exile 2’s full campaign will take you up to around level 65, only three of the six chapters will be playable in early access. The developers decided that a strong endgame was more important for ARPG players.
