Three things everyone must have at home if war

The authority for social protection and preparedness, MSB, has sent out its new edition of the brochure “If the crisis or the war comes”.

The new leaflet covers more areas than the previous 2018 version and has a greater focus on our preparedness for war. It consists of more bulleted lists and checklists to make it easier to absorb the most important information.

New areas covered include:

  • Advice on evacuation.
  • Advice on how to stop a bleed.
  • Advice for people in need of extra support.
  • Advice for dealing with anxiety.
  • Advice on preparedness for pets.
  • Advice on how to talk to children about crisis and war.

The If the Crisis or the War Comes brochure is one of three topics covered in this week’s episode of News24:’s podcast The Flow.

In the section calling Malva Engstedt and Mathilda Lundqvist up the prepper Martin Svennbergwho, among other things, runs the podcast “Vardagsprepping”.

He tells us that there is a factor that many tend to forget in their home preparation.

    – There are probably many people who start their journey in home preparedness who have no plan, who have not thought it through beforehand. Now that the war in Ukraine is relevant, many people think “yes, but I’ll buy a crisis box, then I’ll be prepared”, says Svennberg in Flödet.

And that is true to some extent, he says, but the emergency box in itself will not be enough to protect you.

    – Then you have the basic requirements for a week, but I don’t think it’s enough. You have to acquire knowledge and you have to start thinking a little too.

The prepper can only have three things in the emergency box – that’s how he chooses

If you can only have three things in your emergency box, what are the three most important things to have at home?

    – Hmm, three things… What kind of small emergency box is that?, Svennberg laughs and continues:

    – But I want to be able to eat food and I want to be able to drink water.

Then he lists three things that every household should make sure to have at home:

  • Some kind of gas stove.
  • Some way to purify water.
  • Some kind of lighting.
  • – Then I can actually cook and I can do it in total pitch darkness, says Martin Svennberg in Flödet.
