Utrecht looks up Dom Tower shines with new economical lighting

The Dom Tower is the symbol of Utrecht. The new lighting emphasizes this, says the design agency Speirs Major Light Architecture. The agency made many light installations of iconic buildings, such as St Paul’s Cathedral in London and the Copenhagen Opera House.

By illuminating the Cathedral from within, it will be optimally displayed, says the agency. This brings out special details that would otherwise hardly be noticed. This concerns, for example, the brickwork and the stained glass windows. If the main lights go off at 11 p.m., the windows will remain lit for another hour. These then form the center.

The design agency is no stranger to the municipality of Utrecht. In 2013 they already made a light installation for the Dom Tower, as part of the evening walking route Trajectum Lumen.
