The sixth tourist who drank toxic liquor in Vang Vieng, Laos has died, reports say BBC.

Five of the dead are women and one man. The women are from Denmark, Australia and Britain, the man is from the United States. All the dead women were between 19 and 20 years old, except for the 28-year-old Briton. The man’s age has not been disclosed.

According to media reports, a group of young people made up of citizens of different countries had spent the evening in a small town popular with backpackers on November 12. About ten tourists had fallen ill.

Lao police are investigating the incident. Media reports and statements made by other tourists suggest that the victims may have drunk drinks containing methanol. Illegally produced low-quality alcohol may contain methanol.

Vang Vieng is a popular destination for backpackers in northern Laos. The village is especially known for the “tubing” practiced in the Nam Song River that runs through it, where young travelers float down the river and often get very drunk in the bars found along the river.
