Path of Exile 2 is getting a new feature that makes it much easier for beginners

In Path of Exile 2, the developers are changing how you use your flasks. The new feature will help beginners, but PoE veteran and MeinMMO author Cedric Holmeier is also excited.

What did the developers come up with? In Path of Exile 2 there will only be two flasks: one for healing and one for mana. The developers have thought of something new for the help potions.

The so-called “charms” are new. They recharge by eliminating opponents and help you in difficult situations. For example, a charm can automatically free you from the “Frozen” status. Before he can do this a second time, you first have to eliminate enough opponents.

Many different charms will be found in the game. Each one has different effects, so you can choose the ones that suit your build. To wear more than one charm, you need a better belt. You can have a maximum of three of the helpers equipped.

Path of Exile 2 will also be released on PS5 and Xbox and will feature couch co-op mode:

What is behind the decision? In a press screening of the live stream followed by a question and answer session, MeinMMO author Cedric Holmeier was able to ask the game director and founder of Grinding Gear Games, Jonathan Rogers, about the background to this design decision.

As Rogers explains, it is physically difficult, especially for “beginners,” to squeeze the many different bottles. He explains that this has also led to the fact that flasks in Path of Exile 1 can now be triggered automatically by weakening them.

In Path of Exile 2 they now simply continue this decision and make it available to all players. The charms will probably be a little weaker than the manually drunk potions from the first part, but you no longer have to worry about them after equipping them.

Rogers clearly states in the press conference that he wants to “reduce the bottle piano”. This term was coined by the community because even veterans and professionals in the game often struggle with this mechanic.

Good decision, right?

What does PoE veteran and MeinMMO author Cedric Holmeier think of the new system? I think the new change is brilliant! In Path of Exile I would like to focus on the hordes of enemies, the difficult bosses and now the evasion of enemy abilities through the new role.

Who is writing here? Cedric Holmeier is a freelance author and Path of Exile veteran. He has been playing Path of Exile repeatedly since the closed beta in January 2013 and would describe himself as a veteran with his hundreds of hours of playtime. At the press conference he took the opportunity to ask the founder of Path of Exile his questions.

Bottle management has always annoyed me! With the charms, a good system has been found to simplify the utilities once and for all.

There’s still enough complexity left in the game as you explore the best charm combinations for each build. But with the new feature, I’ll never again find myself in the situation of having to press buttons 1-5 at the same time just because I don’t have a brain cell left to choose the right potion.

Some professionals may be annoyed by the more noob-friendly version, but I think Path of Exile is difficult and, above all, complex enough. I can only welcome the fact that the second part now addresses beginners at this point.

Path of Exile 2 will enter Early Access on December 6th on Steam, PS5 and Xbox. Actually, the game should have been available a long time ago, but the developers wanted you to be able to keep all purchases from the predecessor: Path of Exile 2 is being postponed so that you don’t lose anything from the predecessor that you bought
