Ousmane Sonko’s party won 130 seats out of the 165 that make up Parliament. We are well beyond the qualified majority of 3/5 that Pastef hoped to achieve.

The Les Patriotes party now controls 78% of Parliament. He won in 40 of the 46 departments in the country and 7 of the 8 constituencies in the diaspora.

This is unprecedented in Senegal since 1988 and the victory of Abdou Diouf’s socialist party at the time. Never since has a party chosen to go alone to the elections without the help of a coalition like Pastef today.

Faced with this raid, as the Senegalese press described it, the Takku Wallu coalition led by former president Macky Sall, became the leading opposition force with only 16 seats. For comparison, Macky Sall’s coalition had 83 in the previous legislature.

Coming in third position is former Prime Minister Amadou Ba, who from runner-up became Macky Sall’s political opponent, who obtained seven seats and one department.

And finally, the coalition of Dakar Mayor Barthélémy Dias won only three seats.

As of Sunday evening, the main candidates of the apposition had recognized the clear victory of Pastef.

Any remedies considered?

No announcement to this effect at the moment, but the parties have 48 hours to contest the results. Some of the 41 candidate political groups were present at the proclamation.

On the side of the opposition coalition of former Prime Minister Amadou Ba, we speak of pride and serenity. “ The popular will has been expressed », Said the representative of this coalition, Jamm ak Njarin.

Satisfied also of course on the Pastef side. The party representative rejoiced “ of the massive support of the people » with almost 50% participation rate and promised that the new Assembly would get to work as soon as the final proclamation of the results by the Constitutional Council, that is to say at the earliest in five days if it does not there is no dispute.
