Most of you probably know it: you’re playing a PvP game like a shooter like Call of Duty or a MOBA and at the most inopportune moment your internet fails and you’re dead. This apparently also happened to a gamer who is an internet billionaire blamed for it. But the investor’s reaction surprised him.
What’s behind the story? An angry gamer who goes by the username “JimmyBLLT” on X.com has challenged internet billionaire Xavier Niel to a fight outside a Lidl in Marseille, France.
In a post from May 20, 2024, the gamer writes: “Xavier Niel, I hate you. I offer you a 1v1 in front of the Lidl on Rue Sainte in Marseille.” (via X)
Xavier Niel is a billionaire entrepreneur who founded the French internet provider “Free” and also owns shares in various operators, including the Telekom branches in Monaco and Italy.
According to online magazine Dexerto, the user later explained that he lost his temper in the post after being beaten up for lagging in Call of Duty.
Billionaire surprises gamers
How did the internet billionaire respond? To the gamer’s surprise, the billionaire actually showed up at the meeting and posted a photo on November 15th showing him in front of the Lidl in question. Niel writes: “I’m there.”
However, unlike the billionaire, the CoD player did not show up at the meeting, which caused a lot of ridicule on X.
The gamer himself had various explanations ready. In a comment he writes that Niel didn’t even say that he was actually coming to Lidl. In other comments, JimmyBLLT explains that he was sick and had a fever.
Perhaps the gamer would have been better off challenging the billionaire to a 1v1 in Call of Duty, but it would probably be easier to find a date when both of them have time and are not feverish. Alternatively, he can invite the tech billionaire Elon Musk to play Diablo 4: Elon Musk sets a new record in Diablo 4 and is now basically the best player in the world
