Once again, SFR and its subsidiary RED will increase the prices of certain telephone plans. Imposed price increases, without improvement in service, which are likely to drive away customers.
An increase which risks annoying more than one person. Since January 2023, mobile operators and internet service providers (ISPs) have increased the prices of their subscriptions. At the time, it was Bouygues Telecom which launched the machine, before being quickly followed by its competitors, including SFR and Orange. Only Free has committed not to change the price of its packages until 2027, despite a harsh period of inflation. Over the months, the main operators have multiplied emails to their subscribers announcing increases of 1, 2, 3 or even 4 euros per month on their packages. And unfortunately, some people will have to put their hands in their pockets again.
Despite a loss of subscribers, SFR and its subsidiary RED further increased the prices of certain telephone packages in September. The operator does it again, barely two months later. As reported by our colleagues from Cablereviewseveral Red By SFR Internet customers have just received an email from the ISP to inform them of a new increase in the price of their subscription. This varies depending on the offer and seniority, and can go up to €9!
RED by SFR: up to 9 euros per month increase
A user had to add €1.49 more to their monthly RED Box bill this November. In total, he therefore ends up paying €24.49 per month. The pill is all the harder to swallow because, when he signed up for the subscription a few years ago, he only paid €15 per month for his Internet connection. A price that is unimaginable today… But it is not the most to be pitied! Another also learned that the price of its Red Box offer would increase to €19.98 per month from December 13, 2024, compared to €10.98 currently. That’s a nice increase of €9 per month! The operator may argue that its offer remains “one of the most complete and competitive on the market”, the pill is having trouble passing!
As with each increase, SFR justifies this increase by the need to finance the maintenance of its networks in order to “to offer the best experience for watching your films, playing on the network and sharing your files with ever greater fluidity and speed”. The fact remains that the ISP seems to be targeting customers who have benefited from its promotional offers and their more than advantageous rates.
Faced with this surge in prices, new people risk leaving the operator to join the competition. Indeed, it is not possible to contest or refuse a price increase since this practice is perfectly legal, as SFR is careful to point out. Article L.224-33 of the Consumer Code authorizes ISPs to increase their prices whenever they wish, provided that they inform their customers at least one month before the application of the new prices and allow them to the possibility of canceling their subscription free of charge within four months following this notification. It is always possible to try to contact the operator’s assistance and threaten to go to the competition – in particular by having planned a small comparative analysis of packages with other operators -, which could allow you to obtain a small discount . You never know.
