“During the morning, heavy snowfall and windy weather are expected in Gävleborg’s coastal region and in Uppland down over Stockholm’s northern municipalities. In Gävleborg, the snow showers decrease in intensity during the afternoon and in Uppland only until the evening,” writes SMHI on its website.
Despite that, it was reported that there were no concerns for the emergency services in Gävleborg and Dalarna during the night.
“We’ve had it very calm,” says Håkan Eriksson, interior commander, just before 7am.
In Gävleborg county, several regional trains are cancelled. The Swedish Transport Administration’s train map shows that several trains are delayed on the route between Uppsala and Gävle.
In Uppsala, the city buses were temporarily canceled in the morning, according to local media. However, at 06:00, the traffic company UL announced that they are running with reduced traffic. Even the newspaper distribution in Uppland is delayed, according to UNT.
Västerbotten’s coastal region will also be affected by heavy snowfall, according to SMHI, which is expected to subside only on Friday. About 9,000 households, mainly in the coastal area, had power outages during Thursday morning, according to P4 Västerbotten. These are customers of Skelleftekraft and Umeå Energi.
“Due to the current weather situation, in some areas it has become too dangerous for our employees to work and we have had to withdraw our staff from there. We have to wait until it becomes safe to work in the relevant locations,” writes Skelleftekraft in a press release.
