Tre Kronor legend Mats Näslund is selling his Olympic bronze from 1980

He has won the WC, the Olympics and the Stanley Cup and is one of our biggest Swedish hockey stars ever.
Now Mats Näslund is selling some of his memorabilia from his career, including an Olympic medal.
– I have never been someone who had jerseys on the wall or had a prize collection, he says to Sportbladet.

1994 was Mats Näslund65, together with Thomas Johnson and Håkan Loobthe first hockey player to join the so-called “Triple Gold Club”. To become a member, you must have won gold in at least one WC, one Olympics and won the Stanley Cup. Today, the list contains 30 players, of which nine are Swedes.

Mats Näslund sells the Olympic medal

Näslund is thus one of our most successful hockey Swedes. Despite all the medals and awards he has won, today he is not so concerned about the physical stuff. He has started cleaning out his basement and attic in the house in Skåne. Then he realized that he could sell some of the things.
– I asked the children if they wanted anything left, but they didn’t. Then I thought I’d sell the stuff. There are some profiles that have done it over the years, for various reasons. I don’t do it because I have bad finances, but just because the things can end up with someone who values them more than I do. Now I get to use the money for a holiday instead, he tells Sportbladet.

Retains Olympic 94 medal

Among other things, there are match shirts from the time in the Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins and Tre Kronor that he is trying to find new owners for. Also, surprisingly, the Olympic medal from 1980 in Lake Placid smokes. Sweden got bronze there.

Of course, the legend chooses to keep some things. The Olympic gold medal from Lillehammer 1994 can stay, as well as everything related to the Stanley Cup victory with Montreal in 1986. Of the things he put up for auction, the biggest interest is the Olympic bronze and Näslund’s #26 jersey in the Montreal Canadiens.
– I have never been someone who had shirts on the wall or had a prize collection. If you’re a winner, you know it and don’t need to show it off. When people want to see the Olympic gold or the Stanley Cup ring, I have to go up to the attic to get the things, he says.

This was still a bit sad to hear. Of course you should keep your old memories in the form of medals, rings and match shirts. But as long as Mats Näslund is happy – and whoever buys his stuff – then it’s fine.
