The American channel NBC is adapting Sex Intention, a 1990s film vaguely modernizing Dangerous Liaisons, into a series.
In France, the film was released in 1999 under the name Sex Intentions but the 2024 series, adapted from the film (and more vaguely a very free modernization of the novel THE Dangerous connections by the French writer Choderlos de Laclos), takes the original title: Cruel Intentions.
The story no longer takes place in New York as in the film but in Washington, and plunges back into the world of the ultra-rich and powerful where seduction and manipulation is a real survival strategy.
Developed by the American channel NBC, the series is available in streaming November 21 on Prime Video. In the casting of the series, Sarah Catherine Hook and Zac Burgess replaced Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Philippe in the respective roles of Merteuil and Valmont. Savannah Smith (Gossip Girl), Sara Silva (The Boys) or John Harlan Kim (Flynn Carson and the New Raiders) complete the cast.
