From rookie to golden hero – Brandt reloads

He snagged the last place in the national team before the Biathlon World Cup last winter.
In his very first relay with the national team, he then took WC gold after a great team effort with Sebastian Samuelsson on the last stretch.
Since then, a lot has changed in Viktor Brandt’s sports day, but the goal is the same – to become the best in the world – again.

Biathlon captain Johannes Lukas had a lot of faith in the then 24-year-old Värmlander last season.
The one who came to the WC venue Nove Mesto as a rookie, and left as world champion.

– I remember when I was a junior and sat on the TV sofa and saw the success of the biathletes in the 2018 Olympics and thought that I want to be as good as them, says Viktor.

– It was a bit of a shock when it happened.

Mental meaning

Now that a new season has just started, Viktor Brandt’s sports day looks different compared to last autumn.

Now he is established in the national team and last winter’s breakthrough has had the greatest impact mentally, he says.

– I think I have trained well for three or four years now. The difference now is that I put in more strength training. I knew long ago that I’m stable at Sagittarius.

– Mentally, it has been a boost to know that I can perform at a high level if I do everything right. And I try to think that I will always do things a little better this year than last year, because it worked well then, so it should work well now.

The world’s best biathlete

The WC gold in the relay was one of many breakthroughs for Viktor last season.

This spring came proof after proof that he was able to keep up with the best in several competitions in a row.

– I want to be the world’s best biathlete, that’s all. So I continue to do the work every day.

The Biathlon World Cup 2025 will be held in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
