Kalix is ​​forced to take action – after the “retention” at school

The school method that was introduced in Kalix was quickly severely criticized, among other things for retaining students. According to the municipality, the method was used in four classes, but some time after the criticism it was decided to tear up the agreement with Skolkonsulterna AB.

Several of the interventions have been sent to the Child and Student Ombudsman, which investigates reports of violations.

Kalix must take action

In one of the cases, the representative now assesses that the municipality has not violated the Education Act. However, due to the deficiencies found in the case, the municipality must take the following measures:

  • To promptly investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported violations upon learning that a student considers himself to have been violated.
  • To ensure that staff report information about perceived abusive treatment to the principal.

    • Breach of obligations

    It is therefore about the student feeling exposed to abusive treatment by staff and that the school then breached its obligations to promptly report and investigate information about perceived abusive treatment.

    Kalix municipality has until February 2025 to report in writing what measures have been taken.
