Oldest cold case in history • British police: “Horrifying and distressing”
Louisa Dunne, 75, was found dead in her home in 1967 – strangled and raped.
The case has remained unsolved for nearly six decades.
But now a 92-year-old man has been arrested and charged, writes Sky News.
The case has shaken society for years. 75-year-old Louisa Dunne was found dead in her home in Bristol in 1967 where she had been raped and strangled.
Now, 57 years later, the police have arrested a 92-year-old man suspected of murder and rape, write Sky News. The man is from the Ipswich area and the arrest follows a forensic review of the case which began last year, police said.
Neighbor found her
It was Louisa’s neighbor who found her in June almost six decades ago and the police in the area are pleased with the arrest.
– This is an incredibly significant moment in a terrifying and painful case, says police officer Dave Marchant.
Louisa Dunne’s next of kin have been contacted by the police and Dave Marchant hopes the investigation can give the family all the answers they have been waiting for a lifetime.
– Even though this tragic event happened a long time ago, there will be people who remember what happened and who may have had a connection to Louisa through family or friends, he says.
Oldest cold case in history
Local police say the murder is the oldest cold case in their history and the first time an arrest has been made so long after the crime was committed.
They also say the news may come as a shock to everyone in the Easton community and that officers will be patrolling the area and answering questions from concerned people.
A charge has now also been brought against the 92-year-old man.
