One of the biggest reveals in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be quite devastating. But the community celebrates it.
Baldur’s Gate 3 will probably be considered one of the best RPGs out there for a long time, and it will probably be a while before any game can surpass it. But not everyone is as happy as the majority of the community is with the game. One of them is even really disappointed when one of the story’s secrets is revealed – because he has “wasted” many hours on it.
What happened? In the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, brynoo5 writes in the post “I can’t express how disappointed I am”:
You shouldn’t have seen my face when I found out at the beginning of Act 3 that the Guardian was actually the Emperor all along… I’ve invested so much time into creating the woman of my dreams, even installing mods and… It all ended with me being deceived by a tentacled bastard.
This is how the community reacts: Although the post is pretty negative at first glance, people seem to be quite amused by Brynoo5’s fate – there are now more than 6,000 upvotes. For most people it’s even clear: That’s exactly the appeal of Baldur’s Gate 3 and by making Brynoo5 feel that way, the game has achieved exactly what it wanted to achieve: building a lie with the Guardian.

The creature literally read your mind and created a disguise to gain your trust. On a meta level, one of the most brilliant parts of the game is that you have to design the Guardian yourself.
Others are rather amazed that he managed to avoid Identity of the Guardian spoilers for an entire year – and even installed loads of mods before even playing through the game.
Community celebrates the Emperor: Basically, the Emperor is quite popular with the community with his nasty manipulations. The fact that he appears as a dream creature and repeatedly asserts how much he protects you fits wonderfully with the narrative of the game. Some even note that they never learned many details about the Emperor because they were nice to him – because you only experience many of his big lies if you are really mean to him and always doubt.
How did you feel when you found out the truth behind your Guardian? Were you similarly disappointed by the reveal or did you think it was a brilliant move by the game? By the way, Baldur’s Gate 3 is doing great – it’s even more popular than it was a year ago.
