Donald Trump’s election victory in the United States may have led to increased voter support for the Left Party. That’s what Torbjörn Sjöström, CEO at Novus says to TV4 Nyheterna.
On the other hand, things are going down for the Green Party, as the climate issue ended up in the background during the final phase of the election campaign in the USA.
After the Left Party fell in several polls when representatives made anti-Semitic statements, the downward trend may now have reversed for the Left Party. Donald Trump’s election victory in the United States may have helped the Swedish left party, which receives increased support in the latest TV4 Novus voter barometer presented on Wednesday. The Left Party increases by 1.1 percentage points and ends up at 8.2 percent.
– It could be as a form of backlash to the US election. The Social Democrats are approaching the middle and one is afraid of this right-wing wave that it can be perceived as in the United States. So maybe it’s only the Left Party you can look at, says Torbjörn Sjöström CEO of Novus to TV4 Nyheterna.
The Green Party backs down
At the same time, the Green Party retreats by 1.1 percentage points and ends up at 5.1 percent. Possibly due to little media focus on the climate during the US election.
– The climate is in the backwater right now, with war in Ukraine. There is general uncertainty in Europe. The US election makes it even more uncertain for us now how things will go with Russia. Then the climate comes very far down on the voters’ agenda, says Torbjörn Sjöström.
Otherwise, there are small changes in the measurement. All changes are within the margin of error. The opinion polling company Novus conducted the survey, which is published in TV4. The measurement is compared with the October Voter Barometer. Novus has interviewed 2428 people during the period 4-17 November 2024.
