In Romero’s classic, a plague has broken out in the United States that causes the dead to be resurrected as undead hungry for human flesh. A group of survivors barricade themselves in a huge shopping mall, where a brutal fight breaks out.

Dawn of the Dead combines furious zombie horror and sharp social criticism
In addition to the atmospherically condensed horror scenario, the director also incorporated the fight for survival exaggerated image of American consumer society transformed. In extreme cases, they tear each other apart.
This socially critical approach shaped the style and continues to shape various zombie productions to this day. The best known is probably The Walking Dead, where the downfall of the civil order is attributed to humanity’s own fault.
In Germany, Dawn of the Dead was indexed in 1983 and confiscated in 1991. It wasn’t until 2019 that the indexing was lifted and the horror milestone became after a new FSK test uncut from 18 years released.
