The research clearly demonstrates that nut consumption can have positive effects on blood lipids in adults with different health conditions. It is stated that these findings may be important for the prevention and treatment of health conditions such as overweight/obesity, hypertension and dyslipidemia, as well as cardiovascular diseases.
113 studies evaluating the effect of various nuts, including almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamias, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios, walnuts, and peanuts, on blood lipid outcomes were analyzed. The average daily dose was determined as 45.5 grams of nuts per day, and this dose was compared with a group that did not consume nuts. The findings showed that overall nut consumption resulted in moderate reductions in total cholesterol and LDL (bad) cholesterol, and triglycerides and apolipoprotein B. Researchers explained that nut consumption contributes to reducing cardiovascular risk by positively affecting blood lipids in adults.
