Björn Ferry hits back against Sebastian Samuelsson’s claim

Sebastian Samuelsson claims that the biathletes shoot both faster and better these days.
Björn Ferry took that as an insult and began to investigate whether it was true.
– He doesn’t shoot faster today than he did in my time, he says in SVT’s Vinterstudion.

Few Swedish athletes have been, and still are, as popular as the biathlete Bjorn Ferry46. During his active career, he picked up three WC medals, one of which was gold, and also a surprising gold medal from the Olympics in Vancouver. In 2014, he ended his career as an elite athlete and instead switched to becoming an expert in SVT.

Ten years of Ferry in SVT

It has now been ten years since Ferry put the gun on the shelf. Despite that, the Swedes see his face every weekend during the winter months. During the domestic premiere weekend in Idre Fjäll last Saturday and Sunday, he was of course present in the Winter Studio, among other things together with his new colleague Mona Brorsson.

Over the weekend, SVT interviewed the best male biathlete we have today, Sebastian Samuelsson27, who was asked how he thinks the sport has evolved over the past decade.
– I think it has now been a while since Björn Ferry was active. So I still think it has developed a little, he says and continues:
– I think a lot happens all the time. We see that a lot happens on the shooting range, that people shoot faster and better and hit more.

Björn Ferry’s response to speech

One who did not like that statement was Björn Ferry, who took it a bit as an insult. When the competitions were decided, the commentator came Ola Branholm into the studio and revealed that Ferry had stopped him as he was about to drop off a pair of jerseys for the Olympic gold medallist. “Ola come, I have found something. They don’t shoot faster,” Ferry had said.

It turned out that Björn Ferry was so shocked by Sebastian Samuelsson’s statement that he couldn’t think of anything else. He felt compelled to fact-check the claim.
– Yes, but then I checked myself my last season because you are a bit narcissistic like this. Okay, 46.5 seconds. Johannes Thingnes Bö had the same average as me that year. And then I checked: What did he have last year? Three tenths slower. He doesn’t shoot faster today than he did in my time and Samuelsson was just behind me, he says with satisfaction.
