The Autostrade per l’Italia Group carries out its mission of putting people at the center with an initiative that combines employment and solidarity. Twelve people, 11 with refugee status and one prisoner, will start working for Expand Infrastructures as carpenters. Amplia, a national reference player in the construction scene, a company of the Autostrade per l’Italia group, has launched the Carpentieri Academy in Genoa together with Openjobs Metis, CNOS – FAP and the Operti Foundation of Turin.
The project consists of an intensive 160-hour program aimed at providing the technical and professional skills necessary to start working as qualified carpenters on motorway regeneration and maintenance sites of the motorway network.
The people involved have carried out a linguistic integration and professional orientation path through the CNOS structures. Now they are ready for the professionalization process which will culminate in entry into the Genoese Amplia shipyards and other company offices, in an insertion plan that will continue with coaching and integration in the various construction teams already at work.
The initiative is designed to realize the right to social and work integration for all, which is an integral part of Amplia’s vision of corporate social responsibility. The Academy also intercepts a the world’s growing need for infrastructure regenerationwhich is why Amplia has been strengthening its organization over the last two years with around 900 new hires. Today, through a joint action on the orientation and professional training front, it adds a new professional qualification Academy which integrates with the Autostrade del Sapere project.
Amplia Infrastructures received, in 2022 and 2023, the “Welcome. Working for Refugee Integration” recognition from UNHCR Italy, the UN agency for refugees, for the commitment demonstrated in promoting specific interventions for the job placement of refugees.
Furthermore, Amplia decided to support the work reintegration of prisoners collaborating with the “Second Chance” organization to facilitate access to prisons. So far the Company has hired three ex-prisoners and has three more hires underway, with new interviews expected across Italy. The company provides specific training, including the Carpentieri Academy of Genoa, which will involve a person in home detention intended for hiring at the end of the course.
