This is how the casting for the new DC film

When Marvel choleric Bruce Banner gets angry and turns into the Hulk, his clothes often tear in the process. A scene similar to this also happened during the audition for James Gunn’s new Superman film.

The victim: Henry Cavill’s old Superman costume. The guilty muscle men have now been identified.

Henry Cavill’s old costume was completely ripped apart during the Superman casting

The story came to light when a fan on the social media platform Threads asked new DC film boss Gunn about a rumor (via ComicBook ). Accordingly, Man of Steel candidate Tom Brittney (Grantchester) is said to have destroyed Cavill’s Superman costume during the audition. Brittney is reported to have said:

It takes about half an hour to put it on and adjust it… And I think I accidentally broke it.

Gunn, who is absolutely not afraid to answer fan questions online, then confirmed the suspicion, but implied another accomplice in David Corenswet (Twisters), who ended up getting the super role:

Yes, Tom broke it and then Corenswet, who was way too big, came in and it was just ripped to shreds.

Fans with a penchant for conspiracy theories might now suspect that the super skin was just a casting test to see which mountain of muscle could do the most Hulk damage to the poor piece of material.

We’ll find out how Corenswet performs in the role at the latest when the film starts next year and at the earliest after the release of a first trailer, which DC fans are expecting this year.

When will James Gunn’s Superman be in theaters?

The new Superman flies on July 10, 2025 in the local cinemas. Other roles include Rachel Brosnahan as love interest Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as supervillain Lex Luthor.
