A new study has revealed that sleeping less than 8 hours a day can lead to serious health problems. According to research by Columbia University, one in ten people over the age of 65 in the United States struggles with dementia.
Research conducted at Harvard Medical School suggests that there is a direct relationship between insufficient sleep and the risk of dementia. It is stated that the risk of dementia is doubled in those who sleep less than 5 hours compared to individuals who sleep at least 6 to 8 hours a day.
While the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that adults sleep at least 7 hours every day, it is emphasized that protecting sleep health is critical to preserve cognitive health in later ages.
