Forgotten fantasy epic rebooted 34 years later as a Disney

At the end of the 80s, Willow, a fantasy blockbuster, was released, which was based on an idea from Star Wars mastermind George Lucas and developed into a cult film. If you have never seen the film or want to watch it again, you have the opportunity to do so on Saturday evening on TELE 5.

The fantasy adventure from director Ron Howard was only released in 2022 relaunched with a Disney+ series. However, the production did not come to a particularly glamorous end.

Fantasy cult on TV: This is the story of Willow

In the 1988 film, the eponymous dwarf (Warwick Davis) wants to protect a foundling from the evil Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh). His group of companions includes the human Madmartigan (Val Kilmer). Together they embark on one dangerous journey full of monsters, evil spirits and sorcerers.

Willow was relaunched as a Disney+ series, which failed

In 2022, the first season of a Willow series was released on Disney+. It continues the story of the title character many years after the defeat of Bavmorda and this time tells of the search for the kidnapped young prince in the magical kingdom. To find him, his twin sister Kit (Ruby Cruz) must also team up with the wizard Willow.

Disney+ canceled the fantasy series in 2023 after just one season. After that, things got even worse for fans. Due to cost-cutting measures, the company deleted many titles completely from its own streaming program a short time later. The first season Willow was also one of them.

When is Willow on TV?

TELE 5 broadcasts Willow on November 16, 2024 at 8:15 p.m out of. Alternatively, you can also stream the fantasy film with a subscription on Disney+. As already mentioned, the series adaptation is no longer available from the provider.
