The manifestation, in which various action groups participated (Amelisweerd Niet Geasfalteren, the Friends of Amelisweerd, Core Group Ring Utrecht and Extinction Rebellion Utrecht), was intended to change the minister’s and the House of Representatives’ minds. It is also argued that an alternative plan for the widening should be reconsidered. Anneke Wensing: “With that plan you create more lanes on the current asphalt. By lowering the maximum speed you can make the lanes a bit narrower.” And therefore no trees need to be cut down, the action groups believe.
