The chairman of AKK is leaving his position Toni

Jarmo Mähönen has been in charge of AKK since 2020

Chairman of the Finnish motorsport umbrella organization AKK Motorsport Jarmo Mähönen will leave his position at the beginning of next year, AKK announced on Friday.

Mähönen’s season was supposed to continue for one more year, but he wanted to make room for new management and retire to spend his retirement days.

– I feel that now is the right time to move on and make room for new leadership. The role of chairman is demanding, and it involves a significant time and mental investment, for which I no longer have sufficient motivation. I seriously weighed my decision already the previous year, Mähönen said in AKK’s press release.

Mähönen has been in charge of AKK since 2020.

After AKK’s press release, Iltalehti reported that an experienced racing driver and Viaplay’s F1 expert Toni Vilander is running for the presidency.

– I feel that one of my themes could be to reduce the gap between AKK and the national sports field. Decision-making would be a bit more logical. I’ve heard a bit of wonder that many times the decisions have not been in line with the sports field. I’m not just talking about track sports or rallying, Vilander said to Iltalehte.

44-year-old Vilander has won e.g. The championship of the Italian Formula Renault class and the GT championship series.
