Brendan Shinnimin’s behavior is seen by SVT’s Jonas Andersson

Brendan Shinnimin feels aggrieved after being sent off for his goal gesture.
Now he is getting a planing from the SVT expert Jonas Andersson.
– I think he gets just as much respect as he deserves, he says.

The Canadian Brendan Shinnimin33, celebrated his reduction goal against Växjö by cheering on the opponent Petter Granberg’s face. The Luleå player was then sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Brendan Shinnimin’s play

The situation has caused many to discuss whether one should be expelled for celebrating a goal.
– I have no idea why I was expelled. I scored and celebrated. It’s a match and we like to have fun. I celebrated and I think it’s sad that I get sent off for it. If that’s what you get expelled for these days, hockey in Sweden is going in the wrong direction, said the protagonist himself on TV4 afterwards.

He goes on to say that he didn’t even get an explanation from the refereeing team.
– It must be because they don’t like me. I’ve played professional ice hockey for 13 years and it’s ridiculous how little respect I get. I tried to talk nicely to the judges but they didn’t want to talk to me. It’s a pity.

Jonas Andersson sees the behavior

In SVT’s “Hockey evening”, the presenter spoke Dusan Umicevic and the experts Jonas Andersson and Håkan Loob about the incident which has become a big talking point.
– He gets a little depressed and you understand that when he gets a bit of a beating, he loses his composure a bit and gets up and screams something that we didn’t hear all the way to Stockholm, but it was probably something that wasn’t so pretty, says Loob who agrees with the judges that it was expulsion.

Jonas Andersson, on the other hand, does not agree that Shinnimin should be punished for his goal celebration – but thinks that the Canadian behaved like an idiot.
– It is pure provocation. But what did he say? That he got no respect either? That’s what he was talking about in the interview. I think he gets just as much respect as he deserves. However, that should not be a deportation, he says.

Umicevic then asks if Jonas Andersson really doesn’t think Shinnimin deserves any respect.
– I absolutely do not think he deserves that. He goes on and on, he goes on and destroys a lot of stuff like that. Just in this case: Yes, he provokes. But that’s what he’s there for. Then I think he is a better player for Luleå and for himself when he focuses on hockey. Then it’s a good hockey player, he says.
