Xbox Handheld Console is on the Way

Microsoft has started prototype work for the Xbox handheld console. Phil Spencer states that they aim to reach more players through new devices and platforms.

Microsoft, Xbox Handheld Console is preparing to step into the handheld game console market. According to Xbox boss Phil Spencer’s statements to Bloomberg, the company is currently working on prototype devices in this field. However, it looks like players will have to wait a few more years before they can get their hands on this device.

Work Continues for Xbox Handheld Console

Phil Spencer emphasized the prototype development process and stated that he believes in Microsoft’s potential to produce an innovative device. “I love making devices,” Spencer said. “I think our team can do innovative work,” he said, adding that the process is based on learning and following the developments in the sector. These statements once again confirmed the Xbox brand’s interest in the handheld console market.

Microsoft also continues to work to make its games accessible on more platforms. Phil Spencer emphasized that bringing Xbox games to platforms such as PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch is among the company’s priorities. In February, Microsoft ported four Xbox exclusive games to these platforms and announced that this move had received positive feedback. Spencer stated that they will continue this strategy by saying, “I don’t see a limit to the games we can’t bring to other platforms in our portfolio.”

Xbox continues its vision of providing access to players from different devices with its cloud gaming service Xcloud. With the announcement made in June, Xcloud became available on many platforms, from Fire TV devices to PCs and mobile devices. Phil Spencer said that they are committed to developing innovative business models and devices to reach new players.

Microsoft’s mobile game store initiative is also part of this strategy. However, Phil Spencer announced that the launch of the store was postponed, stating that more market research was needed.
