The reticle Brendan Shinnimin has once again found himself in the hot air.
But this time he has also brought hockey Sweden with him.
Because everyone is raging that Shinnimin was sent off for celebrating a goal.
It was at the end of the first period that Brendan Shinnimin reduced for Luleå in the SHL. The goal meant 1-2 against Växjö and the Canadian cheered extra hard in front of the opponent Peter Granberg – he wasn’t allowed to do that.
Shinnimin expelled
The refereeing team reacted immediately and booked Shinnimin for unsportsmanlike conduct. The incident on Thursday evening has now sparked a big debate within hockey Sweden and very strong reactions, see the video below.

Brendan Shinnimin absolutely cannot understand the referees’ decisions on the ice.
– I have no idea why I was expelled. I scored and celebrated. It’s a match and we like to have fun. I celebrated and I think it’s sad that I get sent off for it, he says in the TV4 broadcast.
– If that’s what you get expelled for these days, hockey in Sweden is going in the wrong direction.
Raging against the decision
Luleåbusen also admits that he didn’t even get an explanation from the referee team, see the incident below.
– It must be because they don’t like me. I’ve played professional ice hockey for 13 years and it’s ridiculous how little respect I get. I tried to talk nicely to the judges but they didn’t want to talk to me. It’s a shame, Shinnimin told the TV channel.

The expulsion has aroused strong feelings on social media and the whole of hockey Sweden rages against a goal celebration being punished. And for once, Shinnimin seems to be getting the opposing supporters with him.
“Here I am on Shinninin’s side. What kind of damn expulsion is this?”, writes a user on X.
“But what is this??? Can’t even stand and look happy anymore? Game sense?”, writes another.
“Is probably the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen, resign everyone, shut down the league, in front of guards who shoot people who show joy,” writes a third.
X is overflowing with critical voices against this action of the SHL referees.
“I don’t need a broadcast to understand that the SHL is working to stifle EVERYTHING, what’s the name of emotion, even tonight… A CATASTROPHIC expulsion for Shinnimin, of course,” writes one user.
“For once, I agree with Shinnimin and think he expresses himself in a sensible way. I think he has made that bed himself in his past, but there has to be some limit,” writes another.
“The deportation at Shinnimin is a fucking joke!”, writes a third.
