Sri Lanka’s new president Anura Kumara Dissanayaken the left-wing party has won a clear majority in the parliamentary elections, according to the news agencies Reuters, AFP and AP. The party won the country’s parliamentary elections with a landslide.
Dissanayake’s socialist NPP party coalition won 150 seats out of 225 seats in parliament, according to results published by the electoral commission on Friday.
Leader of the Opposition By Sajith Premedasan led by Samagi Jana Balawegaya or United People’s Power Party won 31 seats.
Dissanayake was elected President of Sri Lanka on 21 September.
