Semir Pavlica and Bardhyl Bytyqi – both fathers of schoolchildren in Hörby – believe that the children come home hungry after chicken is replaced with pork in the school canteens. The children are instead offered vegetarian food on the days when pork is on the menu. – The municipality says that they have received pressure from residents in the polling booths to have a more varied standard diet with more pork, but why haven’t they asked the children or the parents? asks Semir Pavlica. The explanation: “Want to bring in more children – also moved the soup” It was Skånska Dagbladet that first told about the school food row in the municipality. Yesterday, Semir and Bardhyl tried to submit a protest list with 180 signatures against the change, but in the municipal hall, no municipal councilors wanted to accept it. The chairman of the municipal board Anders Hansson, SD, refutes the claim that the change came about after pressure in the polling booths. – It’s about us wanting more children in the school canteen to eat. We have also moved the soup from Friday to Thursday to get as many people as possible to eat, he says. The municipality believes that they only follow the Swedish Food Agency’s guidelines when children who do not eat pork are offered vegetarian food instead. Plans to move: No indication that it will get better Previously, similar cases in Uddevalla and Varberg have been noticed and there the Discrimination Ombudsman, DO, has not chosen to initiate an investigation into discrimination based on the municipalities’ dietary policy. So far, there is no report against Hörby at DO. Both Semir Pavlica and Bardhyl Bytyqi have considered moving from the municipality. – People have had that idea, because even though we have rooted ourselves and thrive in the municipality, there is no indication that it will get better, says Semir Pavlica.
