  • Bad air keeps schools in New Delhi closed

All primary schools in India’s capital New Delhi are closed until further notice due to increasing smog in the giant city and its surrounding areas, home to over 30 million people.

Instead, the children will be taught online.

Farmers in other parts of India burning their fields ahead of next year’s sowing, as well as exhaust gases from factories and traffic are believed to be behind the deadly high levels of pollution. Cooler temperatures and slower winds keep the hazardous substances in the air for longer periods between October and January, and schools often need to be closed during the worst weeks of the annual smog crisis.

Donald Trump is expected to nominate Robert F. Kennedy as his health secretary shortly, CNN reports, citing sources with knowledge of the matter.

The announcement comes after the president-elect made a series of nominations on Wednesday that sent shockwaves through Washington.

The most attention was given to Matt Gaetz, who is nominated for the new Minister of Justice.

Among other things, Kennedy has been criticized for spreading conspiracy theories about vaccines.

  • SAS plane had to turn around after heavy turbulence

    Photo: Flightradar

An SAS plane from Arlanda to Miami has had to turn around after severe turbulence over Greenland.

    – We have decided to return and fly back to home base. It is routine when an aircraft is exposed to such strong turbulence, says Alexandra Lindgren Kaoukji at SAS.

There are 254 passengers on the aircraft. It will land at Kastrup at 23.15 according to SAS.

    – We need to investigate the plane at one of our own bases. That’s why we go back. It would not have been possible to do that in Miami, says Alexandra Lindgren Kaoukji.

The plane is currently near Iceland.

According to SAS, a team will meet the passengers at Kastrup. They are booked into a hotel in Copenhagen tonight.

    – Then they can hopefully go to Miami tomorrow morning, says Alexandra Lindgren Kaoukji.

  • Large hand grenade find is blown up on Friday

No less than 187 old hand grenades have been found in a forest area in Jönköping. On Friday they will be blown up.

And that “can sound a bit” warns the municipality of Jönköping.

Earlier this year, a private individual found a number of hand grenades in the area, which previously served as a military training ground.

During the week, the municipality has carefully investigated the area and a large number of old hand grenades have thus been found.

“We will finish the search on Thursday and therefore judge that we have found all grenades that could pose a potential risk. The grenades have been found within a fairly small area and we assess that this is where all the grenades have been concentrated,” says Fredrik Svärd, environmental engineer in the municipality of Jönköping, in a press release.

The explosions are expected to continue for large parts of the day.

A police car on call has collided with a van in Umeå.

The accident occurred at an intersection.

No one has been injured. The driver of the van was taken to the hospital for a check-up but did not require further treatment.

  • Several threatened on the phone – unclear by whom

During Thursday, a number of private individuals received threatening text messages and calls from one or more unknown persons.

“The various messages have come from one and the same phone number, at the moment it is unclear who it belongs to,” the police write on their website.

The victims live in Kiruna municipality and Umeå municipality.

    – It has come in gradually, from late afternoon and during the evening, says Marie Andersson at the police in the North region.

She does not want to go into what kind of threat was expressed.

    – But if you have received a text or call like this, you know it.

The cases are being investigated as illegal threats and attempts at extortion.

The police urge others who have been victimized to report it to the police on 114 14.

  • The proposal: Cheaper trips to Arlanda

More and cheaper train journeys to Arlanda Airport.

This is what government investigator Peter Norman suggests in an interim report, writes Today’s Industry.

    – More trains must be able to go to Arlanda C and drop off people. I also think it is possible to lower the prices on the commuter train

He also proposes that the state should appoint a person to negotiate with A-train, which owns Arlanda Express, about more frequent and cheaper communications.

The state taking over Arlanda Express is not an option, as it is against EU rules, according to Norman.

  • Report: Israel commits crimes against humanity

There are no military reasons that can justify the displacement of virtually the entire population of the Gaza Strip – often time and time again, Human Rights Watch (HRW) states. According to the organization’s assessment, Israel has thus committed war crimes and crimes against humanity, they write in a report.

Israel’s warfare violates the laws of war, the organization believes.

“The Israeli government cannot claim to protect Palestinians when they kill them along escape routes, bomb so-called safe zones and cut off food, water and health care,” said Nadia Hardman, refugee and migration researcher at HRW.

HRW calls on the rest of the world to respond by imposing sanctions and stopping arms sales to Israel.

They are also calling on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the forced displacements – and the prevention of the return of those forced to flee – as crimes against humanity.

    Israel denies the accusations.

“Time and time again, Human Rights Watch’s rhetoric about Israel’s actions in Gaza is completely false and out of touch with reality,” writes Oren Marmorstein, spokesperson for the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on X.

    Photo: Pavel Koubek/TT

A serious violent crime has occurred in southern Örebro.

The majority of police patrols are ordered and have arrived at a suspected crime scene in southern Örebro.

    – We were alerted that loud bangs were heard and found an injured person at the scene, says Anders Dahlman at the police.

Exactly how badly injured the person is is unclear, but the person concerned has been taken to medical care, according to the police.

The suspected crime scene is cordoned off and investigative measures are ongoing.

The alarm came in just after half past seven. The crime scene must be outdoors.

No suspected perpetrator has been arrested.

  • Seven to hospital after crash

The extent of the injuries is unclear, but a total of eight people are said to be involved.

Traffic is closed in the southbound direction. One northbound lane is also closed.

  • UN: Food to northern Gaza is stopped by Israel

Attempts to deliver emergency aid to the Israeli-besieged areas of northern Gaza have been blocked by Israeli authorities, said Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, during a press conference, according to the Times of Israel.

Last Friday, the UN-linked panel of experts, the Famine Review Committee, sounded the alarm about the risk of imminent famine in northern Gaza. The threshold for famine may already have been crossed – “but otherwise it will be crossed in the near future”, the FRC stated.

The warning was based on a report from mid-October – and since then the situation is reported to have worsened further.
