The police have filed a criminal report for throwing flares and smoke. The Veljmies statue was damaged, among other things, with torches.
The police are asking for observations about the events after the final match of the Veikkausliiga between KuPS and HJK. In the match played on October 19, Kuopio Palloseura decided the Finnish championship. After the match, smoke and torches were thrown onto the field and back into the audience.
The police have registered a criminal report on the matter, where the suspected crimes are, among other things, causing danger, explosive crime and causing damage.
The police have identified the persons who threw smoke and flares. The police are still asking for observations about situations where smoke and flares were thrown from the field into the stands of HJK supporters. One torch was thrown into the wooden stand and one smoke into the stand of HJK supporters.
KuPS supporters gathered after the match at Kuopio’s market square at the Veljmies statue. Protective fences had been placed around the statue, but they did not stop the revelers and the statue suffered damage. Bottles had been broken on the statue, it had been burned with torches and at least one person climbed on top of the statue.
