  • Israel attacks southern Beirut

    Israel has attacked Beirut’s southern suburbs again, AFP reports shortly before midnight on Wednesday evening.

    The attack came shortly after the Israeli military issued a warning to immediately leave two different areas where buildings had been identified ahead of an imminent attack on Hezbollah targets.

  • Top Republican arrested at airport

    Michael McCaul, Republican member of the House of Representatives and chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, was arrested earlier in November at Dulles Airport outside Washington.

    The top politician says this was “the result of a bad decision” to mix sleeping pills with alcohol, writes Semafor.

    McCaul, who describes himself as a “nervous air traveller”, had taken the tablets to be able to sleep on the plane to Texas.

    But the mixture with alcohol made him confused and he missed the plane.

    The Republican was later found by police and taken into custody pending the arrival of family members to pick him up.

  • Punched and kneed woman – no arrests

    A 35-year-old woman was assaulted in Gothenburg on Wednesday evening.

    According to the police, the woman is beaten and kneed by two women unknown to her.

    The police write a report of assault and according to initial information there was no need for medical care at the scene.

    No one is arrested.

    A 36-year-old man is sentenced to 14 years in prison for, among other things, aggravated weapons offenses and attempted murder after three apartments were fired upon with several shots this summer, UNT reports.

    A total of eight people lived in the apartments – one in Uppsala and two in Örebro – that the man shot. He must also pay SEK 1.6 million in damages to the victims. No one was physically injured in the incident.

    The man denies the crime, but the evidence includes DNA traces and images from surveillance cameras.

    He is suspected of having acted on behalf of other persons, who could not be identified.

    Two younger men are sentenced at the same time for having handled the weapon used in the shootings, both to four years in prison for serious weapons offences.

    One of them, who is not a Swedish citizen, must be deported after serving his sentence.

    Argentine negotiators representing far-right leader Javier Milei’s government have been ordered to withdraw from COP29 and will no longer attend the Baku climate summit.

    – We have instructions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to no longer participate. That’s all I can tell you, Ana Lamas, Argentina’s undersecretary for the environment, told the newspaper.

    Milei has previously said that the climate crisis is a “socialist lie”.
