Växjö Lakers has been Småland’s best team for several years.
Now Nicklas Rahm, who played in HV71 and who coached both teams, directs harsh criticism towards the classic club from Jönköping.
– People in HV71 care more about themselves, people in Växjö care about the association, he says in the podcast “Nedslöpp HV71”.
HV71 has had a tough start to the season and is second last in the table after 15 rounds played. Only Modo has been worse this year. New coach Anton Blomqvist has had a lot to work on with his team.
Rahm has coached HV71 and Växjö
A person who both played in and coached HV71, as well as the rival club Växjö Lakers, is the current assistant national team captain Nicklas Rahm49. He is now in Tre Kronor, but has experience in the SHL thanks to his years in both clubs. In Växjö, where he ended his playing career, he was assistant coach 2011-2015 and 2021-2024, among other things under the national team captain Sam Hallam. In HV71 he was an assistant from 2016-2020 and got the chance as head coach the following year, but he was fired after 32 rounds when HV71 left the top league.

In the podcast “Nedsläip HV71” Rahm explains why the Växjö Lakers overtook HV71 in the battle for Småland. Since the Jönköping team’s last SM gold in 2017, Växjö has won three times. They have a total of four golds and are only one behind HV71.
– Firstly, there are slightly different histories in the clubs. Växjö is a bit more of a workers’ club with a smaller organization and shorter decision-making paths. HV71 is bigger and has significantly more money but also more people who are there for their own sake, while everyone in Växjö is passionate about Växjö. People in HV71 care more about themselves, people in Växjö care about the association. They see working for Växjö as a way of life. It is more volatile in HV71, he says in the podcast.

Nicklas Rahm points out the scapegoat
He points out, for example, that Andreas Davidssonwho was acting chairman of HV71 during the last season, single-handedly managed to drive HV71 to the bottom. It is precisely such mistakes at management level that he believes do not occur in Växjö.
– They show themselves not least when a person can enter, clear around at their own risk and spread terror downwards and then just stab. It’s messy in HV71 and it’s not in Växjö, it’s stable there, he says and continues:
– It creates a sense of security and peace of mind at work. There is a picture of demands, but in a humane way where they want the best for everyone.
