The police have issued a warning after there have been several car thefts around Stockholm. It is above all owners of two car brands who are asked to be extra vigilant.

The number of car thefts has decreased

According to statistics from The Crime Prevention Council reduced the number of car thefts significantly between 2014 and 2023. In 2023, a total of 7,886 car thefts were reported, which is almost half as many as in 2014, when the number of reported car thefts amounted to 14,278.

Now, however, the police in the Mitt region have gone out and warned of a wave of car thefts. They suspect that a thief is behind the car thefts.

“The police in Region Mitt now fear that the international theft gangs will strike here as well and therefore want to issue a warning to owners of this type of car brand,” the police write in a press release on their homepage.

In the last two weeks, seven cars have been stolen, of which three in the last 24 hours.

Do you own any of these cars? Then you should watch out

It is above all those who own a car of the brands Toyota RAV4 or Dodge RAM who should be extra vigilant. To protect yourself against a car theft, there are some things that can be good to think about:

  • Park the car in a lighted area
  • Park the car using another vehicle
  • Attach an airtag or GPS puck to a well-chosen place in the car so that it can be tracked if it is stolen
