Trevor Clark, 32, was recently convicted of assault and breaching bail and got a 131-day sentence. Defense lawyer Robert McFadden, who’s known him for some time, told the judge in this latest case his client has a learning disability.

“He can best be described as probably a 15-year-old boy in a 32-year-old body,” he said. “A lot of his actions are very compulsive. He has problems thinking through things before he acts and that’s brought him before the court on a number of occasions.”

Clark gained notoriety around Sarnia for an incident about three years ago. He was arrested around noon on Sept. 26, 2021, after he got out of a stolen white pickup that’d been involved in five hit-and-run crashes at a pedestrian crosswalk on Exmouth Street and ran down the Howard Watson Trail.

As Clark was being arrested, the officer heard motorists honking their horns and noticed the stolen pickup had been left in drive and was moving. Another officer managed to catch up to the pickup and put it in park.

Clark was granted lease with a driving prohibition the next day. He walked out of the back door of Sarnia police headquarters at 12:35 pm that Monday and crossed the street to a gas station where a man was filling his boat trailer’s tires with air. The engine of the vehicle pulling the boat was idling.

Clark popped one of the trailer’s tires and cracked the boat’s fiberglass hull after he got behind the wheel and sped toward the city’s hospital. When police tracked him down there, he left the vehicle in gear and fled on foot. One officer hopped in and put the vehicle in park while another officer chased Clark down and put him in handcuffs.

A Sarnia police officer made a social media post about the incident.

“Yesterday, guy steals a truck, crashes it five different times, flees from the police, ghost rides the truck and runs from the cops. Today, he gets lease, walks out of the station, steals a truck, ghost rides the truck and runs! Was out of custody for 30 seconds before reoffending,” they wrote.

Clark pleaded guilty in November 2022 to seven charges linked to the back-to-back incidents including two counts each of dangerous driving and stealing a vehicle and got nearly two years in jail.

The Crown initially was going to ask for 150 days for his latest convictions, which Justice Mark Poland called concerning as the assault featured grabbing, pushing and shoving. But both lawyers eventually agreed to suggest a time-served, 131-day sentence.
