Overwatch 2 now brings Overwatch Classic with 6vs6 and legacy abilities

Overwatch 2 turns back time and restores the original game – at least for a few days.

The story surrounding Overwatch 2 is becoming increasingly strange – even if many people can hardly imagine it. Because Blizzard’s popular game is now taking the role backwards and giving fans exactly what they want: Overwatch Classic.

What’s going on with Overwatch 2? Overwatch 2 has been criticized since its release. Not only did the completely canceled PvE mode never appear, many people also don’t get along well with the new “5vs5” format. Tanks in particular are dissatisfied because they have a special burden on them – so much so that many have completely lost the fun of it.

The community’s demand was clear: they wanted the old 6vs6 format back. Blizzard resisted this for a long time, but opened discussions about it a few weeks ago.

What kind of mode is coming now? The “Overwatch Classic” game mode starts today in Overwatch 2 and – as the name suggests – is intended to offer the classic Overwatch experience. This means that only the original heroes from Overwatch 1 will be playable and in a “6vs6 format”. If you want, you can set off with 2 tanks. Alternatively, you can revive the “good old days” and go into battle with 6 Torbjörns, who, together with their guns, cause a lot of chaos.

The mode is active for 3 weeks, i.e. until the beginning of December.

Community is having fun: From the outside, it looks pretty funny, if not absurd. Our colleague Maurice Weber from GameStar also thinks so, who wrote on X:

Many, however, are pleased with the announcement. Reviving the old Overwatch is a good thing. It’s a shame, however, that it’s only a temporary mode.

Is that really bad? Of course, it’s pretty ironic that Blizzard is essentially bringing Overwatch 1 into Overwatch 2 now. However, this is exactly what a large part of the community asked for.

It remains to be seen whether the mode is so good that it will eventually become a permanent game mode or even completely replace the “new” system of Overwatch 2. So far, this seems to be a step in the right direction – even if that direction is a thing of the past.
Originally Overwatch was supposed to be Titan – and that led to a lot of problems.
